- ➤ Tucson Medical Center welcomed the first baby of 2026, Axel (born to Marissa Morales Lopez) on Jan. 1 at 4:32 a.m.; he weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and brought New Year joy to the hospital. KVOA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Families are invited to the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus Family Fun Day on Jan. 10 at 12 p.m. at Chorus Hall (5770 E. Pima St.). The event will offer Cowpoke Pizza, Eegee’s and a rodeo challenge while previewing winter programs. KVOA

- ➤ Tucson schools and community centers began accepting summer program applications on Jan. 1 and are offering options to keep students learning during the break. Families can review details on participating institutions as more opportunities become available. KOLD News 13
- ➤ Pima Community College will host a Super Saturday enrollment event on Saturday, Jan. 3 at the Downtown Campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. where new students can meet advisors and apply for financial aid. A second session is scheduled on Saturday, Jan. 10 as spring classes begin Jan. 15. KVOA

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ U of A researchers are developing a wearable health device that uses artificial intelligence to detect early signs of frailty in elderly patients (a promising step toward early intervention) in Tucson today. - ➤ A confirmed case of measles was reported in Tucson today, and the patient is in isolation after recent border travel. Health officials from Pima County and state agencies are investigating the case (no known public exposure so far) and urge vaccination. KVOA
- ➤ Banner Health put in place a mask mandate at its facilities after a spike in flu-like cases was reported by the Pima County Health Department. The rules require masks in patient areas and suggest them elsewhere — Tucson Medical Center and Carondelet hospitals have not yet adopted the measure. KVOA
