COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local nonprofit expanding its mission to help Arizona families has launched a support group for female veterans, offering peer resources and mutual aid in Tucson (meeting details remain pending).  KOLD News 13
  • Chris Edwards, owner of Tucson Appliance, was announced as the Grand Marshal for the 2026 Tucson Rodeo Parade scheduled for Feb. 26. Edwards, a Sabino High School grad, is known for his strong community ties & support for local non-profits.  KOLD News 13

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Yelp released its Top 100 US Restaurants 2026 list featuring four Arizona spots including Tumerico in Tucson, De Babel in Scottsdale, Corazón de Agave and Taco Viva in Phoenix. Tumerico is known for its fresh vegan Latin American dishes and was named Yelp’s top restaurant in 2024.  KOLD News 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tucson hosts events this week. Paranormal Cirque runs at Tucson Mall through Monday, Valencia Library holds a Hello Kitty picnic hunt on Thursday from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and Whiskey Del Bac has a desert dyes lecture Thursday at 6 p.m.; live broadcasts and hockey games round out the weekend.  Tucson Sentinel
  • Tucson Pride’s Board of Directors announced it is closing the organization permanently and canceling the festival scheduled for Feb. 21 due to administrative and sponsorship challenges. All collected funds will be refunded within 30 to 90 days.  KGUN 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hobbs and the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity announced a $3M expansion of the BuildItAZ Apprenticeship Initiative on Jan. 21, boosting programs including the Tucson Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee to help meet the state’s need for more skilled construction workers by 2030.  KVOA
  • SimonMed Imaging must expedite refunds following a Jan. 20 settlement announced by Attorney General Kris Mayes — under the deal, refunds must be issued within 60 days of insurance adjudication and consumers can file complaints by April 30.  KVOA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Afrezza is an FDA-approved inhaled insulin for adults with type 1 or 2 diabetes that acts fast at meals, reaching the bloodstream in about 12 minutes. Dr. Barsony (endocrinologist) said it must be used with basal insulin and may cause coughing, yet it offers flexibility in blood sugar management.  KGUN 9

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A Tucson nonprofit received a $50,000 grant on Jan. 21 to build affordable housing units. The organization will use the funds to plan and construct new units in the local community.  KOLD News 13
