COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Living Streets Alliance announced the 24th Cyclovia Tucson event set for Sunday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., turning three miles of streets—including Tucson’s first Bicycle Boulevard along 4th and Fontana—car-free for walking, biking, and skating (sponsored by AARP and Pima County Attractions).  KVOA
  • A structure fire on Feb. 3 closed North Romero Road from West Wetmore Road to West Prince Road, but the road has reopened, Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) reported.  KVOA

CRIME NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and local volunteer search teams continued looking for missing Nancy Guthrie in Tucson as National Missing Persons Day highlighted nearly 300 unresolved cases since 1980 (a reminder many remain unsolved).  KGUN 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Tohono O'odham Nation Rodeo and Fair returns to Sells this weekend, featuring a traditional game—S-oñguiwul—held on Sunday where men and boys race with a mesquite wood ball while women compete in Toka and Ha'a contests.  Tucson Sentinel
  • A Better Community is launching its Merchant and Mission-Focused Marketplace today at Dunbar Pavilion — bringing over 40 Black-owned businesses and community organizations together as Arizona Racial Justice Initiative covers vendor costs to support Black History Month celebrations.  KGUN 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents and community members met recently to discuss Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind's planned move to Oro Valley, which will close the campus dorms (raising concerns about future student support).  KOLD News 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new study by a University of Arizona professor finds that Tucson’s urban greening programs must be redesigned to serve low-income neighborhoods better, while Tucson Water’s Storm to Shade program is boosting stormwater projects and job training — building a fair, resilient environment.  KGUN 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Six Colorado River states, including Gov. Hobbs from Arizona, met in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 2 to discuss a water-sharing deal as supply levels drop. If no agreement is reached by Feb. 14, federal plans will force cuts that could burden Tucson’s CAP supply.  Tucson Sentinel
  • Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes joined a coalition on Feb. 3 to oppose a federal plan to remove staffing standards in long-term care facilities. She warned that lowering nurse presence could lead to more injuries, illnesses, and neglect in care homes (as shown in other states) to protect seniors.  KVOA
  • Starting Monday, Feb. 9, crews from Pima County Department of Transportation and Granite Construction will begin daily replacement work on the closed Ajo Wash Bridge from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until July; drivers are advised to use alternative routes (Cunada or Tonelada Street) and allow extra travel time.  KVOA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pima Community College baseball split its doubleheader on Tuesday at West Campus Aztec Field when Cochise College defeated them (5 to 1) in game one but the Aztecs rallied to win (4 to 2) in game two. The team will host Mesa Community College for ACCAC play on Saturday with the first game starting at noon.  Tucson Sentinel
