  • Four local nonprofits are hosting the Desert Gold Childhood Cancer Awareness Walk on Sunday, Feb. 15, to support efforts and boost community understanding of childhood cancer.  Arizona Daily Star
  • Leonard G. Wagner (a pioneering early 1900s homesteader who worked in mining, law enforcement and railroading across Pantano, Vail, Helvetia and Tucson) is honored with a new street name in Vail. The street recognizes his lasting contributions to local heritage.  Arizona Daily Star

  • A fire near Irvington & 6th Avenue on Feb. 8 displaced a local family and killed their pets as emergency crews secured the scene.  KVOA

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Pride of Arizona (the U of A marching band) will be honored with one of the nation’s highest awards for collegiate bands during halftime of Friday’s football game at Arizona Stadium, recognizing its excellence and positive impact on campus culture.  Arizona Daily Star

  • The Upper Colorado River Basin shows the lowest snowpack in 30 years, and experts expect near-record low runoff into Lake Powell this spring (boosting chances of a court fight over water rights). This situation may lead to shifts in water management practices in the region.  Arizona Daily Star
