- ➤ The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partnered with America250 to donate 250 semi-truckloads of food across 50 states, with the first 40,000-pound truckload arriving in Tucson on Feb. 10 and six more scheduled over the next six months. KVOA

- ➤ Local officials will begin upgrades at the intersection where three University of Arizona students lost their lives in a hit-and-run last year. KOLD News 13
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Arizona will launch Galaxy Slam (Feb. 14-21) to celebrate its legacy in space research and sports, with a men’s basketball game on Feb. 18 and stargazing events at the Flandrau Science Center in Tucson. KVOA
- ➤ The University of Arizona announced that 170 students will become teachers to help ease the statewide shortage, as over 8,000 teachers left their jobs last year. The program will support future student learning in the community. KOLD News 13
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents can drop off household hazardous waste including cleaning products, batteries, and documents for shredding on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon at IBEW union hall (750 S. Tucson Blvd.). The event is free for Tucson residents, while nearby suburbs are charged a fee. Tucson Sentinel
- ➤ The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality issued a revised air quality permit Monday for South32’s Hermosa Project, a mine near the Patagonia Mountains about 30 miles southwest of Tucson. The permit update, following EPA feedback, clears a regulatory hurdle for the project that will extract zinc, manganese, lead, & silver. Tucson Sentinel

- ➤ Pima County residents can get free tax help starting Feb. 13 at Kino One-Stop Career Center on E. Ajo Way. The VITA program offers service on Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Mar. 20 and DIY classes Feb. 26, Mar. 12 and Mar. 26 for returns. KVOA

- ➤ Arizona's Department of Health Services has issued a voluntary recall for Legacy & Co's Super Yuzu and Nature’s Wonder's Trap Queen marijuana products after detecting potential contamination from Aspergillus; consumers are advised to dispose of the products and check with dispensaries if they experience symptoms. - ➤ Gov. Hobbs applied for $200M for rural health, but CMS revised the award to $167M; the revised budget is expected to be approved soon. State agencies will use the funds to enhance telehealth and basic health services in rural communities. KOLD News 13
