  • The University of Arizona will unveil its $35.5M cleanroom expansion on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Building (1230 E. Speedway Blvd), aiming to boost semiconductor research and offer digital twin and AR tours for student training.  KVOA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tucson’s La Fiesta de los Vaqueros rodeo celebrates 100 years of tradition with events like bull riding, team roping, and women's barrel racing. The festival runs Feb. 21-22 and Feb. 26 — Mar. 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. rain or shine.  KVOA
  • The 71st annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show officially opened Thursday at the Tucson Convention Center and will run for four days. The event offers hands-on exhibits, live rock demonstrations, and a (Red, White and Blue) theme marking the nation’s 250th birthday.  KGUN 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tucson Unified schools will lock down campuses if someone claiming to be a federal immigration officer does not show proper identification (principals are instructed to call law enforcement immediately). The policy covers classrooms, buses, and school events to keep students safe.  KGUN 9
  • Dual language students in Tucson Unified outperformed their peers in reading even as many state students struggle, according to local educators. The district credits its bilingual instruction for the strong performance.  KOLD News 13

  • Biosphere 2's Ocean Habitat welcomed 108 coral fragments for the first time in 30 years to study temperature resilience; marine experts Diane Thompson and Samantha King attached corals sourced from the Florida Keys and Flower Garden Banks during a two‑hour dive, marking a new chapter in local research.  KVOA
  • Biosphere 2's Ocean Habitat welcomed living corals for the first time in over 30 years to test coral resilience and combat climate-driven reef damage. Diane Thompson and Samantha King led the initiative with expert divers to attach 108 coral fragments on experimental structures (Coral Arks) for temperature tests.  KVOA

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a nine-win season, the Arizona Wildcats football program signed 23 new transfers and lost 18 players to strengthen its roster for next season in Tucson—new players will compete in key positions on offense, defense and special teams.  The Daily Wildcat
  • The Pima Community College men’s basketball team won a 105+45 game against Phoenix College on Wednesday, extending their unbeaten streak to 26 games and marking their 15th game scoring in triple digits this season.   • Yesterday, Feb. 12, the University of Arizona softball team (3-2, 0-0 Big 12) played a doubleheader against Drake University (4-1, 0-0 MVC) at Rita Hillenbrand Stadium and then hosted the Bear Down Fiesta with Creighton, Coastal Carolina, and Utah Valley.   • The Pima Community College women’s basketball team secured a 20-win season on Wednesday with a 73-53 victory over Phoenix College; the win marked their eighth straight match (20-4 record and 12-2 in ACCAC).
