COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Boys + Girls Club of Tucson's Steve Daru Clubhouse will receive $685,000 for renovations, including a new basketball gym and scoreboard, after Angel Charity for Children awarded the 2026 Impact and Opportunity Grant. The upgrades will create needed space for its growing membership.  KVOA
  • Dan Marries’ inaugural car wash raised nearly $30,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Arizona on Friday, March 6 at Chuze Fitness (Grant and Craycroft). Dozens of volunteers spent 10 hours washing over 250 vehicles with help from local donations.  KOLD News 13
  • Hundreds of Tucsonans gathered at Hope in the Park last Friday to support the unsheltered community, and the event remained open until 2 p.m. as locals joined together to offer assistance.  KVOA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A family of four was displaced after their two-story home caught fire in the 2300 block of West Calle Joya de Ventura on Friday, Mar. 6 at 2:05 p.m.; crews contained the blaze by 2:26 p.m. and evacuated nearby homes as a precaution.  KVOA

  • Tucson’s tech scene is shifting as artificial intelligence speeds innovation in defense programs and fuels startup growth at hubs like Tech Parks Arizona (which hosts 100 companies and 6,000 knowledge workers). CULTURE NEWS

  • Restoration on San Xavier Mission’s facade continues this winter as scaffolding covers the 230-year-old church while crews remove harmful concrete to reveal its original details; the work, led by Timothy Lewis and Matilde Rubio and funded by Patronato San Xavier, is set to complete by Easter.  KGUN 9

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers in Tucson reported that gas prices rose sharply near downtown, with some stations increasing from $2.50 to nearly $2.95 in a few days. Prices remain below the local average though they reflect trends from global oil market changes.  KGUN 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Judge Dewain Fox ordered state lawmakers to devise a new funding system for school construction and maintenance within eight months after ruling that the current approach was unconstitutional, and he issued a 90-day pause for appeal + the measure follows years of underfunding that have strained school facilities.  Tucson Sentinel
  • Palo Verde High Magnet School proposed a three-year pilot plan to switch to a four-day week, extending classes from 8:10 a.m. to 4:10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and using Fridays for academic support, credit recovery, and internships (community feedback is expected).  KGUN 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • At Tucson Medical Center’s hospice facility on the Eastside, roughly 75 volunteers support patients by cleaning, stocking linens and providing bedside comfort. Harpist Jan Afonso visits weekly and uses her harp to bring soothing music — a reminder of hope — to ease stress for patients and families.  KGUN 9
  • Dr. Payam Zamani has opened a new MY DR NOW clinic (located at Fry’s Shopping Center in Oro Valley) that offers primary care, pediatrics, women's health and other services with extended hours and walk-in visits.   • Youth hockey in Tucson struggled when the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show ended ice availability at Tucson Arena from Jan. 28 to Feb. 15, forcing the Junior Roadrunners to seek practice time outside town.
