COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tucson Parks and Recreation and Raising Cane's are hosting the 27th annual EGGstravaganza at Doris J. Thompson Park on Saturday, Mar. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; parking is limited.  KVOA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire inspectors warned residents today against using weed torches to burn yard weeds because the dry conditions can allow flames to spread into homes and cause complete losses, including pet fatalities (burning is illegal in Tucson and requires a permit in Pima County).  KOLD News 13

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hundreds of people celebrated the grand opening of Bass Pro Shops near Interstate 10 and Kino where customers shopped for fishing rods, camping equipment, and hunting gear (15% of every sale supported local conservation efforts).  KGUN 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Pima Air and Space Museum, which opened in 1976, is celebrating 50 years by offering a 50% discount on May 8. Its indoor and outdoor exhibits showcase over 100 years of aircraft history, inviting Tucson residents to explore aviation's legacy.  Tucson Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arizona hosts the seventh-annual Regents’ Cup debate contest on Saturday, March 28 at McClelland Hall on East Helen Street — over 40 students from Arizona’s state universities will compete in storytelling and Oxford-style debates for one-time scholarships.  KVOA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking homes for over 100 desert tortoises emerging from winter brumation this spring. Local residents can adopt a tortoise to help provide these native reptiles a safe transition as the season unfolds.  KVOA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Roughly 150 TSA officers (across all levels) at Tucson International have not received a paycheck in 40 days as the partial government shutdown continues today. The airport is hosting a donation drive to help the affected workers until Congress reaches a funding deal.  KOLD News 13
  • Lane restrictions are in place on Park Avenue in Tucson due to roadwork — drivers should follow posted detour signs for a safe route.  KVOA
  • The final phase of the Downtown Links bypass project is nearing completion and will finish in about three months to provide drivers a smoother route from Broadway to I-10. Tucson City Council approved the route nearly 18 years ago and construction has lasted over five years.  KGUN 9

  • Arivaca’s only doctor, Dr. Donald Smith (67), plans to retire on Aug. 1 while United Community Health Center works to find his replacement. The rural community faces a primary care shortage as residents rely on his longtime service.  Tucson Sentinel

  • Today, Pima Community College will celebrate its women's basketball team's first-ever national championship at West Campus Aztec Gymnasium from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a meet and greet starting at 4:30 p.m. and refreshments served.  KVOA
  • Pima Community College Aztecs swept their ACCAC doubleheader at Chandler-Gilbert Community College Tuesday — strong plays by Jiselle Nunez and Clarissa Figueroa powered the wins.
