COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Tucson hosts the Taco 5K today from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting on historic 4th Avenue and moving toward the Mercado District; participants will enjoy taco stops, music, and community as they stroll at a slow pace — a fun, relaxing event for all ages.  Downtown Tucson
  • Downtown Eggventure is underway downtown from April 3 to April 17, inviting participants 18+ to find QR code eggs hidden in local businesses & enter to win gift cards, tickets, and family passes.  Downtown Tucson
  • Residents in Tucson’s Garden District used a Safe Streets Mini-Grant to add a new traffic circle and traffic-calming measures along Fairmount Street, addressing speeding issues. Neighbors noted slower speeds even before the project finished (60 percent neighborhood support was needed) and applications for future grants are open through December.  KGUN 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Logan Phillips has been named Tucson poet laureate from 2026 to 2029 by the city, the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona, and the University of Arizona Poetry Center. He will launch the Somos Uno Poetry & Storytelling Series at local community venues.  Inside Tucson Business

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Legacy Learning Community will open its new South Oro Valley campus this fall to serve special education students and those with visual and auditory impairments. The campus will offer small classrooms for Kindergarten through 12th grade and join existing locations in White Mountains and Concho with enrollment now open.  Inside Tucson Business
  • Local educator Marc Acuña became the CEO of Make Way for Books on March 30, aiming to expand early literacy and promote reading in families’ first languages. He hopes to strengthen community access to education across southern Arizona.  Inside Tucson Business

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Renovations began at Tucson House at 1501 N. Oracle Road on March 10 to convert 407 units into 358 affordable apartments for seniors 55+ funded by a $50 million HUD grant under the Thrive in the 05 initiative. The upgrade will improve community spaces and infrastructure for longtime residents.  Inside Tucson Business

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Arizona extended head coach Tommy Lloyd’s contract through 2031, keeping him with the Wildcats. Lloyd said the move honors his connection with Tucson and the university (a sign of strong local commitment) and underlines the program’s future.  KVOA
  • The Arizona Wildcats are less than 24 hours away from their Final Four game against Michigan, with special coverage provided by 13 News and AZFamily. The winner will advance to the national championship while local fans watch closely.  KOLD News 13
