ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ During April, as Tucson observes Distracted Driving Awareness Month, community advocates urge drivers to use the Do Not Disturb feature and pull over safely before texting after police data showed 29 traffic deaths last year and 17 in the first three months+ they also remind everyone to stay alert for pedestrians and cyclists. - ➤ Former board president Michael Woolbright was convicted of stealing over $500,000 from the Tucson Delta Chi Alumni Board at a University of Arizona fraternity+ he will be sentenced on April 28. KOLD News 13
- ➤ Jake Couch—an Alabama man—is in critical condition at Banner University Medical Center after a hatchet attack at a Tucson bus stop where he and his wife waited, and police arrested Daniel Michael on two counts of aggravated assault after they recovered the hatchet from his home. KVOA
- ➤ On April 4th, a State Trooper shot 41-year-old Robin Rae Budelli near Park Avenue on I-10 after she charged with a large butcher-style knife along a no-pedestrian shoulder and she was declared deceased at a hospital while the officer remained unharmed—an investigation by the Major Incident Division is underway. - ➤ A Tucson man, 25-year-old Hunter Fred Paddlety, was arrested on April 9 and is now facing charges of three counts of sexual assault, sexual abuse, kidnapping, and aggravated assault after he is accused of raping a developmentally disabled woman at a bus stop on March 30 to early March 31 — he was on probation for previous felony offenses. - ➤ Tucson reached 100 degrees on April 11 (1:09 p.m.) and broke the record for the earliest triple-digit day by surpassing the previous record set on April 19, 1989. Arizona Public Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Hobbs warned that a GOP spending proposal could trim disability services and reduce paid caregiver hours for Arizona families when the changes take effect in July and October, putting over 59,000 disabled Arizonans at risk— the bill reallocates $75 million from the prescription drug rebate fund, $38 million from the housing trust fund, and $10 million from the commerce authority fund while requiring legislative reauthorization before the current waiver expires in September.
