- ➤ After nearly a year since a fire left Tucson Greyhound Park in rubble, BVB International Academy Arizona—an affiliate of Borussia Dortmund—announced plans to build a soccer academy complex with three fields and a restaurant so parents can watch the games. Construction will begin mid-May and take about a year and a half while using local contractors to create jobs and boost youth sports. KGUN 9
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Tucson police arrested 19-year-old Daniel Xavier Webster on suspicion of first degree murder after officers found Michael Lee Baker, 60, with significant blunt-force trauma at Doris Thompson Park around 10:30 a.m. Sunday — bail was set at $1 million. Arizona Daily Star
- ➤ Michael Creel, charged with killing Senate candidate John McLean in a DUI incident on November 15th, rejected a plea deal that would have given him 10 to 25 years and is set for a jury trial on September 16th (he is free on a $200,000 bond). KGUN 9
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ High school students in Tucson's Sixth District can submit original artworks, such as paintings and photography, by April 18th at the Tucson District Office for the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. The winning piece will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol with work from other districts. KVOA

- ➤ Former state representative Andrés Cano — who served in the Arizona House until 2023 — was appointed to the District 5 seat on the Pima County Board of Supervisors on April 15.
