COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pima County Fair kicked off Thursday when News 4 Tucson hosted KVOA Day at the event, and visitors met StormTracker 4 Chief Meteorologist Matt Brode, who provided live weather updates.  KVOA
  • The American Heart Association will host the Southern Arizona Heart Walk at Reid Park on Saturday, with News 4 Tucson anchor Sean Mooney set to lead the family-friendly event. Local residents can join the walk to get active and support heart health.  KVOA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Tucson Fire Department crews returned on Thursday afternoon to contain remaining hot spots after a brush fire burned 15.3 acres near Castle Rock (one area reignited due to increased winds, but crews quickly contained it) and are monitoring for further flare-ups.  KVOA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tucson Comic-Con is set to begin May 4 as pop culture fans anticipate guest appearances with Jim Starlin (creator of many Marvel characters) announced first. More pop culture legends will be named on social media soon.  KOLD News 13
  • A new mural in downtown Tucson celebrates UA basketball coaches Lute Olson + Tommy Lloyd and is on display at Fifth Avenue and Seventh Street. The artwork honors Olson’s Hall of Fame career and marks Lloyd’s current leadership.  KVOA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arizona launched a generative AI platform that lets students and faculty draft content and analyze documents using models from Anthropic + Google + OpenAI while protecting user data from external use.  Tucson Sentinel
  • Edwin Gallegos earned his EMT certification and firefighter training through the Jacob Dindinger Memorial Scholarship from Pima Community College on Thursday. Jacob's mother Corrine Dindinger and the Golder Ranch community celebrated his achievement and lasting legacy in service.  KVOA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Registration is open for the 43rd El Tour de Tucson, where youth riders (under 18) ride free. The event invites local families to join a long-standing community cycling ride.  KVOA
  • Jackson Glueck (Staley HS) earned ACCAC Division II Player of the Week after hitting .600 with 6 RBIs during a week that saw losses and wins for the Aztecs. The team will face Gateway Community College at Gene Autry Park today at 3 p.m.  Tucson Sentinel
  • Pima Community College sophomore Kymia Bridgett was named ACCAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for Apr. 5-11 after winning the Triple Jump at the GCC Outdoor Invitational with a mark of 12.20 meters — her third weekly honor this season. Her overall personal record is 12.58 meters set at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships.  Tucson Sentinel
