- ➤ Tucson activist Dora Rodríguez will release her memoir this summer that tells her story of surviving a desert crossing in 1980 and finding hope with Southside Presbyterian Church. Her release party will be held on Saturday, July 5 at 10 a.m., the same day she was rescued. KGUN 9
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man died and a suspect was taken into custody after a shooting occurred in the 900 block of West Irvington Road near I-19 in Tucson on April 18 at 6 p.m. KOLD News 13
- ➤ Jose Mora, a Golden Dawn church member, was charged on Thursday with five counts of child molestation and three counts of sexual conduct with a minor after an investigation and was detained by Homeland Security Investigations—he is now held at Pima County Jail on a $250,000 cash bail with his next court hearing set for April 24—. - ➤ Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man to climb Mount Everest, will speak at University of Arizona Commencement on May 16 to inspire Tucson graduates. His feats include climbing the highest peaks on each continent and paddling the Colorado River—he also co-founded a nonprofit that helps 10,000 people. KVOA

- ➤ Owen Brosanders—17-year-old junior at University High School—helped pass a Climate Action Resolution by the Tucson Unified School District and served on the Bond Oversight Committee for a $480 million bond; he will study political science in college as he continues to push for environmental change. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Jose Hermosillo, a 19-year-old U.S. citizen visiting Tucson from Albuquerque, was detained by immigration officials on April 8 when he was near Nogales without proper identification. His case was dismissed on April 17 after his family provided his birth certificate and social security card. Arizona Public Media
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Medicaid funding may be cut if the new budget is approved and this could force Arizona to end its Medicaid expansion, leaving about 520,000 people without coverage.
