  • Día de la Niñez will take place this Saturday, April 25, offering Tucson families bounce houses, live music and pinatas in a festive community celebration. Vice Mayor Lane Santa Cruz said the event feels like a birthday party for every child plus it welcomes adults to join the fun.  KOLD News 13

  • The University of Arizona's Tech Launch Arizona program helps researchers turn new inventions into companies by bridging research and technology. Since 2013, the initiative has generated billions in economic impact + is expected to create thousands of jobs in Tucson over the next five years.  KOLD News 13

CRIME NEWS

  • Volunteers with Humane Borders said they encountered armed men in camouflage while leaving water for migrants at a remote desert station south of Tucson, and advocates noted the incident raised concerns about militia-style activity in the area.  KOLD News 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tucson transportation museums are collaborating on a new historic route to showcase the city’s evolution from horse-drawn carriages to modern electric trolleys. The project will soon open for visitors, offering an engaging look at local transit milestones (designed to educate and inspire).  Arizona Daily Star
  • Dominic Palmieri, known as the Midway Gourmet, delivers creative fair food at the Pima County Fair this weekend — serving treats like hot Cheeto cheddar cheese pickle pizza across over 40 booths on the 600-acre site.  KGUN 9
  • From April 28 through May 2, the 43rd Tucson International Mariachi Conference will showcase student workshops, competitions, and a special session with Eduardo Magallanes at venues such as downtown DoubleTree Hotel Ballroom and Linda Ronstadt Music Hall while hosting the Fiesta de Garibaldi at Jácome Plaza.  KVOA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two fraternities at the University of Arizona lost recognition on Thursday after reports of hazing with hot liquids and forced alcohol consumption that led to hospitalizations, and of hosting events where drugs were given to students. Both groups will face interim bans on events (pending further investigations).  KGUN 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since new federal rules took effect last July, over 400,000 Arizonans lost SNAP benefits and food banks in southern Arizona report a surge in visitors. The Community Food Bank will host its Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 9 to assist affected neighbors (including over 75,000 in Pima County).  KOLD News 13
  • Thirteen-year-old Jordan Vasquez raised concerns about drug use and public nudity at Rudy Garcia Park while practicing football, prompting Council Member Selina Barajas to plan a youth and family forum. The meeting will seek ways to improve safety for players and local families.  KVOA
