- ➤ The Salvation Army Tucson is inviting individuals, businesses, churches, and community organizations to sponsor 50 local kids for Discovery Camp at Camp Ponderosa Ranch in Heber from June 22-26. A $300 sponsorship covers a child’s full week of lodging, meals, transportation, supplies, and camp activities. KGUN 9

- ➤ Federal authorities reclassified marijuana as schedule 3 (after nearly 60 years under strict restrictions), which means Tucson-based dispensaries may soon process credit cards and get improved banking support. This change will help the industry operate more like a typical business. KGUN 9

- ➤ The University of Arizona has placed Phi Delta Theta on activities suspension after an investigation found forced alcohol drinking + hazing incidents that put students in danger, with similar reports affecting other fraternities. KGUN 9

- ➤ Zona’s handler from Tucson Police has written a children’s book to help parents and kids talk about online safety by using a story where three girls encounter a risky request (with clear tips for discussion). The book is available online and will soon be added to local libraries. KGUN 9
- ➤ Continental Elementary School in Green Valley earned an A+ School of Excellence award this week from the Arizona Educational Foundation as students began a bottle-cap mural for the school's sensory garden that offers a calm space for learning. KGUN 9
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting May 1, four new 23 passenger electric shuttles will begin riding Sabino Canyon Recreation Area’s Bear Canyon route, offering emissions-free trips from Bear Canyon Overlook to the Seven Falls Trailhead and reducing noise and pollution with support from Tucson Electric Power. KGUN 9
- ➤ Fire crews responded Monday to a 10-acre Triangle Fire on East Dragoon Road near Benson, prompting road closures & SET status in Dragoon. At least four aircraft and several ground crews fought the blaze. KOLD News 13
