COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Linda Kelly, owner of the historic Triangle T Ranch, used her water truck + hose to hold back the Triangle 2 Fire on Dragoon Road today while fire crews mop up hotspots. The ranch stores 1,000 gallons on site in case of emergencies since it lacks piped water. KGUN 9
- ➤ The Pima Council on Aging sold its Broadway building (which served older adults for 24 years) to Precious Metals Refinery for $1.6M and will finalize the deal on May 4 as it moves to a new community outreach facility. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Arizona researchers are using drone-mounted radar to measure glacier debris in Alaska and Wyoming to test a method that will help guide drilling on Mars. Their field tests showed the system can detect the depth of rocky layers covering ice, providing crucial data for future missions. KVOA
- ➤ University of Arizona is hosting a public forum tomorrow to review the César E. Chávez Building name, inviting campus and community input. The meeting will run from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Manuel Pacheco Integrated Learning Center (room 120) with parking available at the Cherry Avenue Garage. KVOA
- ➤ Phi Delta Theta headquarters is investigating hazing allegations after three students were hospitalized at its Arizona Alpha chapter at the University of Arizona — university officials and fraternity leaders are reviewing the incident and planning further actions. KVOA
- ➤ Tucson Unified School District approved a $6.2 million, four-day school week pilot at Palo Verde High Magnet School that will begin next school year—classes run Monday through Thursday from 8:10 a.m. to 4:10 p.m. and Friday serves as an enrichment day. KVOA

- ➤ More than a dozen environmental groups (including Patagonia Area Resource Alliance) filed a 251-page objection on April 17 to federal documents clearing South32's Hermosa Mine near the Patagonia Mountains; the groups cited legal and environmental risks while South32 expects a final decision by July. Hobbs to postpone a Wednesday auction of 160 acres of State Trust Land for the Copper World Mine near the Santa Rita Mountains — citing concerns for water, habitat, and cultural resources.
