CRIME NEWS
- ➤ After responding on April 29 to a domestic disturbance at an RV on 25 East Roger Road, Tucson Police arrested 61-year-old John Edward Sullivan for aggravated assault and domestic violence, and his charges were upgraded to second-degree murder when 73-year-old Susan Ainsworth Gustafson died (she had a valid protective order against him). - ➤ A 73-year-old woman named Susan Ainsworth Gustafson died after a domestic violence assault inside an RV on East Roger Road at North Stone Avenue in Tucson late last month, and police later arrested 61-year-old John Edward Sullivan and charged him with second-degree murder as the investigation continues. - ➤ The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team released new details on the officer-involved shooting at Tohono Chul Park on April 28 just before 7 p.m. where officers responded to reports of gunshots and shot 31-year-old Alfred Lopez-Minor—who ignored commands and posed an imminent threat—resulting in his death and prompting separate investigations by PRCIT and the OVPD Office of Professional Standards. - ➤ Tucson residents will soon have the chance to voice their opinions on Plan Tucson 2025 — a public hearing that will let locals share input on the city’s plans for growth. KVOA
- ➤ Tucson City Council appointed Roque Perez to fill the Ward 5 seat after former council member Richard Fimbres vacated it—Perez, who directs the Metro Education Commission, took unpaid leave to serve until Dec. 1. Arizona Public Media
- ➤ Today travelers 18 and older at Tucson International Airport must show a Real ID or another federally accepted ID—TSA advises arriving early to allow extra time for security screening. KGUN 9
- ➤ Starting tomorrow, travelers flying out of Tucson will need a Real ID to pass through TSA security — this new rule applies to all departing flights. KVOA
- ➤ Two years after Arizona officials exposed a $2.5 billion Medicaid fraud scheme that exploited Native Americans seeking addiction treatment, the state has recovered only about 5% of the funds while more than 100 individuals have been indicted—Attorney General Kris Mayes said her team is working to seize assets from fraudsters and hopes to recover much more in the future.
