EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Twelve Cholla High seniors in Tucson have secured hospital positions ahead of graduation, setting them up with career starts after the ceremony. KOLD News 13
- ➤ Pima Community College in Tucson announced its Back on Track initiative that pays students a pathway from associate to bachelor degrees in education, healthcare, and business, with the only Arizona school among eight nationwide expecting to enroll 250 students this year and double enrollment with a second cohort. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Center for Biological Diversity released a new video showing 'Cinco' the jaguar roaming (Sky Island mountain range) south of Tucson, where cameras captured three clips in March and April and experts stressed the need to protect cross-border habitats. KVOA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Tucson is inviting developers & community partners to present creative ideas for transforming the Ronstadt Transit Center downtown. City officials will review proposals soon to revitalize this well-known public space. KVOA
- ➤ Pima County launched a public database in mid-April to update shelter bed availability twice daily as part of its One Pima Initiative to help those experiencing homelessness (shelter providers and community workers are receiving training to improve updates and accessibility). Tucson Sentinel
- ➤ City leaders say partnerships with nonprofits, developers and government agencies are key to meeting Tucson's growing affordable housing shortage. Officials note the approach, which includes the recent Desert Dove opening, could add 35,000 units over the next decade. KGUN 9
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Pima County Health Department warns that some medications may increase the risk of heat illness during rising temperatures. Residents are advised to review medication warnings and consult health providers (especially as the weather warms). KOLD News 13
- ➤ Tucson-based Emagine Technology Solutions is expanding its AI-assisted Journey pregnancy tracking app through a study that offers health tech bundles like Fitbits and blood pressure monitors (funded by the Arizona Commerce Authority). - ➤ El Rio Health is celebrating the pre-grand opening of its 95,000 sqft Stone Health Center at the former Tucson Heart Hospital (Stone and River) and it will serve 22,000 patients.
