COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Three rescued dogs from Guadalupe enrolled in the Paws for Redemption program at Lewis Prison, where inmates care for them during weekly training sessions to earn certifications and second chances. The program, run by One Love Arizona, offers a fresh start for both dogs and inmates.  KGUN 9

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two small planes made emergency landings in Arizona this week—one on a Tucson street and another in Sun Lakes—adding to three similar incidents last month; FAA and NTSB investigations will determine if the trend stems from new pilot training or aging aircraft, and no injuries were reported.  KOLD News 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • On May 7, Tucson Police Department responded to a call near Craycroft and River roads where a U of A expert found prehistoric remains over 800 years old linked to Hohokam culture (A.D. 650-1200) and set for repatriation to a claimant tribe.  KVOA
  • Four iconic Tucson acts will perform at La Rosa in The First Annual Last Reunion Ever on Friday, May 22 (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) at 6:00 p.m. Tickets cost $26.49.  Tucson Sentinel

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Bobcat Tucson Water LLC, an affiliate of Beale Infrastructure, applied for permits from the Arizona Department of Water Resources to drill two wells at the planned Project Blue data center site north of the Pima County Fairgrounds on South Harrison Road; the wells could draw up to 31 million gallons annually (enough for about 384 households).  Tucson Sentinel
  • Pima County will host a career fair soon to connect job seekers with dozens of public sector employers offering roles in law enforcement, education and government services. Locals can explore new career paths at this event.  KVOA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arizona officials expect the fall 2026 class to be smaller than the fall 2025 class (which dropped 19% from fall 2024) as they review enrollment trends ahead of the term.  Arizona Daily Star

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Mount Lemmon Domestic Water Improvement District urges residents to follow Stage Two water restrictions as water supply levels fall below optimal capacity. The restrictions ask locals to cut nonessential outdoor water use (including lawn irrigation, car washing, and pool filling) to avoid moving to Stage Three.  KGUN 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tucson’s 6th Street underpass partially opened Monday after officials completed key upgrades to improve traffic flow along the corridor. Further enhancements are planned in the coming days.  KOLD News 13
  • Arizona and other Colorado River Basin states are in renewed dispute over sharing water as negotiations broke down, leaving federal officials to decide its management. The conflict recalls the Parker Dam War (when Arizona sent troops to defend water rights) and affects Tucson via the Central Arizona Project.  KGUN 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Straus Family Creamery is recalling select flavors of its organic ice cream for possibly containing metal fragments; the recalled items have best-by dates from Dec. 23 to Dec. 30 and have been on shelves since May 4 in stores across 17 states (including Arizona).  KOLD News 13
