- ➤ This Saturday, May 24, El Camino Baptist Church (7777 E. Speedway Blvd.) on the Eastside will host its monthly food distribution from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Lead pastor Brad Albin said the church will offer about 150 food boxes from Caring Ministries that can last a family three to four days, and community members are urged to arrive by 7 a.m. to secure their share. - ➤ The fast-moving Cody Fire near Oracle has destroyed homes and forced residents to evacuate while closing roads on Mount Lemmon—officials are monitoring the situation. KOLD News 13

- ➤ Frontier Airlines has launched a nonstop flight from Tucson International Airport to Las Vegas with fares starting at $79; the service operates three times a week and adds to its existing route to Denver. The airline also introduced new upgrades — including UpFront Plus seating and unlimited companion travel— and will debut First Class seating in late 2025. KVOA

- ➤ Michael Woolbright, the former president of Tucson's Delta Chi alumni board, was sentenced to five years in prison—adding 30 years of probation and a $520,000 restitution order—for stealing over $500,000 by issuing unauthorized checks and displacing the group’s accountant. Arizona Public Media

- ➤ Four hundred and eighty-one graduates received their diplomas during the Catalina Foothills High School ceremony on May 21 (the event marked the end of their school year). Arizona Daily Star
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pima County declared a fire emergency on county-owned properties to protect residents from wildfires by banning open flames, consumer fireworks, and all spark-generating activities. County officials noted that this is the first fire restriction in over a decade and emphasized the risks amid very dry conditions. KVOA
- ➤ The Cody Fire in the mountains above Oracle (30 miles northeast of Tucson) burned over 1,311 acres by Thursday morning after starting Wednesday afternoon, forcing evacuations in Oracle and San Manuel with shelters set up at Canyon del Oro High School and Mammoth's community center. About 100 firefighters are building containment lines with bulldozers and aircraft while authorities enforce new fire restrictions on county and federal lands amid dry, windy conditions.
