  • Chicanos Por La Causa’s Healthy Aging initiative now offers free nutritious lunches for Tucson seniors on weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Casa de Encanto + the program helps reduce isolation and promotes healthy living with meals prepared using fresh ingredients.  Arizona Daily Star
  • More than 40 Tucson residents started a 75-mile, seven-day Migrant Trail Walk on Monday morning in Sasabe to honor migrants who died in the desert over the past 20 years. The group will finish the walk on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Kennedy Park — a tradition begun in 2004 with memorial crosses and prayer ties.  KVOA
  • Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona are marking 90 years of service with a new campaign (90 Years Strong) to honor local role models and help girls earn badges in cybersecurity, robotics and coding. The group will complete 90 acts of service and host a music festival called Scoutchella in December.  KGUN 9

CRIME NEWS

  • Martin Valenzuela Lopez appeared in court on May 26 for charges of DUI and for leaving the scene of an accident that caused a death — the case is linked to an incident near Nogales High and Old Vail Road in Pima County.  KOLD News 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Stagehands at Arizona Theatre Company’s Tucson branch voted to unionize with IATSE Local 415 on May 15—recording a 15–4 vote—to seek better work conditions and fair wages. The crew will begin bargaining soon and hopes to secure more rest and improved schedules to support work-life balance.  Tucson Sentinel

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Faculty leaders at the University of Arizona have asked the administration to reinstate 10 writing program faculty whose contracts were terminated on May 19 due to lower enrollment estimates for the fall. The leaders argued that the decision undermines trust—harming both faculty livelihoods and the academic environment.  Arizona Daily Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pima County Health Department will move its consumer health and food safety services, vital records office, and North Clinic to the new Northwest Service Center at 1010 W. Miracle Mile Road this summer — consumer health will start on June 4, vital records on June 17, and the clinic will reopen on July 6.  Arizona Daily Star
  • Ward 3 Councilman Kevin Dahl’s reelection campaign qualified for matching funds after passing an audit on May 23—making him eligible for up to roughly $140,000 from city funds. Other candidates in Midtown and South Side races submitted matching fund applications as audits pending will set spending limits ahead of the Aug. 5 primary.  Tucson Sentinel
