CRIME NEWS

  • Tucson police arrested a wanted felon on the eastside after a major drug bust recovered drugs — guns and cash.  KVOA
  • Eduardo Bustamante-Luzania, 41, was arrested on May 26 on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and prohibited possession of a firearm after he allegedly shot 59-year-old Randy Shultz in the face near the 9700 block of South Nogales Highway in Pima County — his next court appearance is set for June 6.  KOLD News 13
  • Tucson Police are investigating a peeping tom incident that occurred on May 23 around 9:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of East 6th Street near Campbell Avenue—detectives ask residents to review their security footage and report any unusual activity.  KVOA
  • The sheriff's department is asking for help finding Cristian Barrionuevo, an inmate mistakenly freed from jail because of a paperwork error and now wanted for a probation violation — a reward of $1K is offered for tips.  KVOA

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new public art project is underway in Downtown Tucson to mark the city’s 250th birthday. The Rio Nuevo District and local partners have chosen four local artists to create murals of Tucson’s history — with work to be completed by June 30.  KVOA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At UA, the school year ended with major changes that merged its seven cultural centers into a new Student Culture and Engagement Hub and shifted Native American Student Affairs into another office—protests, layoffs, and a cut in career-track positions in the writing program followed amid declining enrollment and renewed DEI scrutiny. Current student employees will keep their roles through the next academic year as the university finalizes the new structure.  Arizona Public Media

  • A new study found the shingles vaccine reduced the risk of heart attack and stroke by 26% for up to eight years in over 1.2 million adults. The shot is recommended for those 50 and older and is available at local pharmacies—consult your doctor about possible side effects that can last up to two days.  KGUN 9
