- ➤ The Migrant Trail finished their 75-mile walk yesterday morning from Sasabe, Sonora to Tucson to honor migrants who died or went missing at the border+ Over 40 people of all ages joined the trek to protest border policies that pushed migrants into dangerous crossings+ KOLD News 13
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Rita Rd. and Houghton Rd. killed one man on Sunday morning — Tucson Police closed the intersection and crews began repairing a light pole, keeping it shut through part of the afternoon. KVOA
- ➤ Tucson Police responded to a report of a deadly shooting at an apartment complex on the West side yesterday at about 12:45 p.m.—they found an adult male with gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead while another person involved was located. KOLD News 13
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Live Theatre Workshop hosted its 6th Annual Young Playwrights contest on June 1, where over 40 middle and high school students presented original plays under the guidance of experienced theater professionals. The contest featured six productions and the program will continue with weekly student-led shows through July — supporting local talent and upcoming summer camps. KGUN 9
- ➤ The Tucson Girls Chorus held a send-off concert on Sunday afternoon at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Oro Valley before leaving next Sunday for Philadelphia to begin their tour and perform at Carnegie Hall on June 14. The performance marks their return to the historic venue after 16 years and will be led by executive and artistic director Dr. Marcela Molina—who has been invited to serve as festival conductor. - ➤ The Pima County Board of Supervisors will soon discuss a proposal from Matt Heinz to create more than 12 thousand affordable housing units in our area — the plan aims to expand housing options for residents. KVOA
- ➤ Local government officials meet this week to decide on key finances. Tuesday, Pima County supervisors will vote on a 1.5-cent tax increase that raises funds for affordable housing and a new library space, and Wednesday Oro Valley will consider raising water rates by about 3.6 percent—adding around $1.81 per month for average use—to support a five-year upgrade plan.
