COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cool Willy's Air & Plumbing provided a free air conditioning unit to an elderly Tucson woman in need, marking the company's effort to help local residents during high temperatures.  KVOA

CRIME NEWS

  • Jonathan Santos, 23, said he was molested as a young boy by Jose Mora from his former Tucson church when he was about 7 years old—Mora was charged on April 15 and has a next court date on June 30.  Arizona Daily Star
  • An 18-year-old was shot and killed in a deadly confrontation at a midtown Tucson apartment complex — authorities named a suspect and are investigating the incident.  KVOA
  • On Monday, Tucson Police officers arrested a 19-year-old student who brought a loaded handgun to Rincon High School—he now faces a Felony Disorderly Conduct with a Weapon charge and is held on a $50,000 bond.  KGUN 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Desert View High School is hosting a three-day active shooter preparedness workshop this week led by the Pima County Sheriff's Department using the Run—Hide—Fight protocol to train students and staff in rapid response techniques. The training is part of a broader initiative to improve school safety across the county with about 350 participants expected annually.  KGUN 9
  • On Tuesday, Pima County supervisors voted 4-1 to buy the old Wells Fargo building at 150 North Stone for $6.2 million to serve as the new library and county headquarters. County officials will study the building and conduct an environmental assessment over the next two months while planning to invest about $24 million on renovations+ a move that saves nearly $90 million compared to updating the current library.  KOLD News 13
  • On Tuesday, the Pima County Board of Supervisors approved measures to spend $250M over the next decade on affordable housing without raising property taxes. The board also increased next fiscal year’s housing spend by $3.5M from a $5M base and will use ARPA interest dollars to support both home ownership and rental projects — an effort to ease the affordable housing crisis for many local families.  Tucson Sentinel
