ECONOMY NEWS

  • Visit Tucson generated an economic impact of $304,571,589 in 2023-24 and delivered a 2300% return on investment that produced $24 for every $1 invested. The organization was funded with $12.5 million from bed tax revenue & continues to support Tucson’s tourism economy & strengthen its regional market presence.  Arizona Daily Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arizona will not require diversity and equity courses for graduation as part of its new general education curriculum—this decision follows long-term faculty concerns and feedback from academic advisors about complicating course tracking. Undergraduates will still have the option to choose courses that fulfill these attributes when the revised program starts in fall.  Arizona Daily Star

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Conservationists and local officials plan to build a large wildlife bridge over I-10 near Tucson so animals can cross safely. A $3 million wildlife ramp near the Santa Cruz River is set to finish soon and the ambitious bridge project may cost tens of millions and take 15 to 20 years to complete as officials work to secure full funding and adjust to recent leadership changes.  Arizona Daily Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tucson’s older neighborhoods are set to change as a new state law lets homeowners build up to four small dwellings or sell yard space to developers within boundaries defined by Prince, Silverlake, Country Club and Silverbell roads — a move aimed at boosting middle housing options. City officials held public meetings and will review local regulations this fall to ensure compliance by Jan. 1, 2026.  Arizona Daily Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tucson mother Rose Bennett recalled her son’s near-drowning at a summer day camp 16 years ago which left him with a traumatic brain injury, a memory that surfaced today at Marana Aquatic Center as children swam nearby. She now works with Safe Kids (and the Drowning Prevention Coalition) to urge local families to use lifeguards, swim vests, and other safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.  KGUN 9

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a loss in Friday’s Super Regionals, the Arizona Wildcats beat UNC 10-8 on Saturday. The teams play again today for a College World Series berth.  KOLD News 13
  • Arizona Baseball beat North Carolina (10-8) in game two of the Super Regional to keep its season alive, forcing a winner-take-all game three today at 9 a.m. MST. Closer Tony Pluta threw 52 pitches to help his team in the close contest.  KVOA
  • FC Tucson earned a 4-0 win on Saturday against AMSG FC with goals by Filip Arras, Alexis Ledoux, Juan Pablo Sánchez, and Brandon Sánchez + the win kept the team atop the Southwest Division table.
