ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian shut down a section of South Palo Verde Road at South Coach Drive— the pedestrian was taken to hospital for treatment and drivers were asked to avoid the area.  KOLD News 13

CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Sahuarita found three explosive devices and are investigating one device further to determine if it poses a threat—officials said tests are ongoing.  KVOA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecasts show Lake Powell could drop below 3,490 feet starting in December and Lake Mead may fall below 1,035 feet in April and May, which would force Glen Canyon Dam and Hoover Dam to cut power production later in the forecast period. Power rates may rise 30 to 40% as Tucson power users face a phased turbine replacement that could take up to three years—adding extra cost pressure amid low runoff levels.  Arizona Daily Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Vail, Amphitheater and Catalina Foothills school districts will approve their budgets this week amid uncertain state aid for fiscal year 2025-26—each may revise their plans in September. Meanwhile, Nogales will vote on a $107 million city budget that raises its general fund from $49.3 million to $53.4 million starting July 1.  Tucson Sentinel
  • Governor Hobbs rejected House Speaker Montenegro's request for a continuation budget—calling it a farce and vowing to veto any such measure. The dispute over the $17.6 billion spending plan puts state operations at risk after July 1 if no compromise is reached.  Arizona Daily Star
  • Early voting started on June 22 and is still open in Tucson as candidates share their messages with voters—each candidate is reaching out ahead of the election.   KVOA
  • Mike Rankin, Tucson’s city attorney since 2004 with 33 years of service, will retire in September — the city council started the process Tuesday to hire an executive recruiting firm that may take up to 16 weeks to choose his replacement.  Arizona Daily Star

  • Former Arizona men's tennis player Colton Smith will try to win a spot in Wimbledon’s main draw today in a first-round match against world No. 193 Santiago Rodriguez Taverna. He must win three matches to advance, with his contest starting at 3 a.m. MST and streamed on ESPN+.  KVOA
  • FC Tucson women's team beat Desert Dreams FC 2 to 1 Saturday night at Kino North Stadium. Fiorela Miranda scored early and Zoey Gist added a stoppage time goal—ending the Phoenix team's winning run and setting up upcoming matches against Del Sol in Phoenix and Arizona Arsenal at home.  Tucson Sentinel
