  • Tucson business owners are cautious as tariffs raise costs and fears of a recession add to the summer slowdown — some shops use loopholes and save cash reserves while local economists warn that rising prices could hurt retailers and restaurants.   • Pima County Department of Transportation will shut down the intersection at Alvernon Way and Ajo Way on Wednesday, June 25 from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for a traffic signal cabinet replacement; lane closures will affect northbound and southbound left-turn lanes as sheriff’s deputies and flaggers guide drivers to reduce delays.  KVOA

HEALTH NEWS

  • University of Arizona researchers are using wearable sensors and artificial intelligence to predict when a pregnant woman may go into labor by tracking minute-by-minute body temperature; early tests predicted labor within a four-day window nearly a week in advance with about 80% accuracy + the team plans to integrate the technology into everyday wearables to improve pregnancy care.  KGUN 9

  • Arizona Athletics will start paying student-athletes directly starting July 1 following a federal judge settlement of the House vs NCAA case, according to Athletic Director Desireé Reed-Francois — the department has developed an algorithm to share up to $20.5 million based on sport revenue, and athletes in every sport can opt in while also receiving a summer course on financial literacy.  KVOA
