CRIME NEWS

  • Border Patrol agents raided a Tucson woman's Midtown home on Tuesday night to search for a man who fled from a traffic stop near Patagonia after a 70-mile chase — arresting three men while failing to locate the pursued suspect and leaving her concerned for her dog.  Tucson Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed two GOP budgets — calling them a sham that hurts public safety and health care — and lawmakers have until June 30 — the deadline — to reach a plan that stops a shutdown.  Tucson Sentinel
  • ADOT began a $600 million project to widen I-10 between Kino Parkway and Country Club Road to improve traffic flow and safety by adding lanes + rebuilding the Kino interchange and removing the Palo Verde interchange. The project will keep two lanes in each direction during busy times + use overnight lane restrictions from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., with work expected to continue through 2028.  KVOA
  • Federal approval lets ADOT begin planning the Phoenix-to-Tucson rail project today — the agency’s outline includes a $10.6 million budget to study station locations, travel data and infrastructure for a rail line that will stretch about 160 miles from Tucson to Buckeye. Governor Katie Hobbs has pledged $3.5 million as ADOT awaits a federal grant to move to the next phase of planning.  Arizona Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Christina Colosimo from Banner University Medical Center Tucson warned residents to prioritize water safety for young children and teenagers this summer — citing CDC data from July 2024 that recorded 759 unintentional drowning deaths while urging locals to learn CPR to help prevent lasting brain injury.  KVOA

  • Footy Park, Tucson's first outdoor artificial turf soccer park, will open in July near Kino Parkway and 22nd Street; the facility will feature three small-sided fields for 5-vs-5 games + one larger field for 7-vs-7 matches along with a shaded viewing area and on-site parking for organized play.  KGUN 9
