CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Using genetic genealogy, the Pima County Sheriff's Department identified Kenneth Spuller as the victim of a 38-year-old cold case from May 11 near 3400 W Anklam Road (after a 99.9% DNA match with a relative in May) and detectives continue investigating his murder while urging anyone with information to call 911. - ➤ Detectives have offered a $20,000 cash reward for tips on the murder of 19-year-old Nathan Callahan (three years after he was shot at a Tucson party on June 26th) when witnesses reported (that several individuals left before police arrived). KVOA
- ➤ A Jamaican man known as The Ice Man was extradited to Tucson to face federal charges for an alleged romance scam that defrauded an 85-year-old Vail resident of $400,000 + the FBI said his group used tactics like sending flowers and false lottery wins to trick the victim, marking a key step in cracking down on scams against elders. - ➤ The historic Philippine Mars seaplane reached its new home at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson after a six-day oversize load journey from Lake Pleasant—following its 1,500-mile flight from Vancouver Island. The aircraft, one of only two remaining Martin JRM Mars flying boats used by the U.S. Navy in World War II, will be open for tours at Night Ops starting June 28. KVOA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ADOT held a discussion on June 26 at 10 a.m. near Kino Parkway about a $600M project to reconstruct and widen I-10 from Kino Parkway to Country Club Road—this project, expected to finish by 2028, will add lanes, rebuild interchanges, and impose overnight lane restrictions between Park Avenue and Palo Verde Road to improve traffic flow and safety. - ➤ April Ignacio, co-founder of Indivisible Tohono, led mandatory training on missing and murdered Indigenous peoples for the Tohono O’odham Police starting on May 27 near Tucson to help officers recognize and address the crisis.
