  • A 12-year-old boy visited firefighters from Stations 376 and 377 B Shift in June to thank them for saving his life after he went into cardiac arrest while playing football on April 23. He exchanged Code Save coins with the crew and received one from the Fire Chief — a gesture that showed his gratitude and the community's care.  KVOA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arizona researchers played a key role in building the observatory that took more than twenty years to complete and just released its first images showing colorful nebulas, gas clouds, and many stars. The large telescope will scan the night sky over the next decade to help study dark energy and used a specially made mirror from a local lab — the only one that can craft such a mirror in one piece.  Arizona Public Media

  • A coalition of Southern Arizona nonprofits met on Wednesday at the Community Foundation to urge Congress to protect federal funding that supports health care, food assistance and childcare programs. Experts warn that cuts could reduce some organizations’ budgets by 50—70%, forcing them to form new partnerships for essential services.  Arizona Public Media

Daniel Barden from CODAC said that 85% of CODAC’s budget relies on federal funds and warned that cuts could reduce nonprofit budgets by 50—70% as lawmakers work on a Senate reconciliation bill with a July 4 deadline.  Arizona Public Media

  • Good Samaritans + paramedics from the Golder Ranch Fire District saved a 12-year-old boy's life on Friday, June 27 in southern Arizona by quickly responding to his emergency.  KOLD News 13
  • The Pima County Health Department released its (2023) Overdose and Suicide Mortality report detailing suicides and overdoses across the county.  KOLD News 13
  • Pima County reported 2 heat-related and 1 heat-caused death so far in 2025 — last year saw 146 heat-related and 78 heat-caused deaths. Hikers at Sabino Canyon are planning early morning and evening workouts to avoid the heat.  KGUN 9

  • Former Arizona guard Caleb Love—who went undrafted—signed a two-way contract with the Trail Blazers yesterday, and he will join the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas in July.  KVOA
  • Tucson native Bryanna Coté spent ten years on the professional bowling tour, winning five PWBA titles—including the US Women’s Open—and helped Team USA capture its first World Cup team gold medal in bowling. She began bowling at age 7 with help from her grandfather and continues to inspire young bowlers with her dedication to the sport.  KGUN 9
