COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Foot Solutions on Broadway Boulevard launched a community shoe drive to help Tucson’s homeless by collecting clean, gently used casual and athletic shoes until July 5. Store manager Dan Miller said all donations will go directly to Gospel Rescue Mission—ensuring individuals get proper footwear.  KGUN 9
  • On Saturday, Park Place Mall hosted the annual Canstruction competition where five local teams built sculptures from canned goods to help the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona support families facing food insecurity this summer. The displays will remain at the mall until July 18 — giving shoppers a chance to view the art and donate to the cause.  KGUN 9

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • State officials reported 1,740 wrong-way driver incidents in 2024—down from 1,979 in 2019—with collisions rising from 55 to 59 and deaths falling from 17 to 14, as new camera systems and larger roadway signs help law enforcement act before crashes occur.  Arizona Daily Star
  • On Sunday, five hikers including a 15-month-old child were rescued from the Seven Falls area in Sabino Canyon as two were airlifted and three were taken to a hospital for heat-related issues, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.  KVOA
  • Eight hikers were rescued today from Bear Canyon near Seven Falls after suffering heat-related issues—six were lifted by helicopter while two were escorted out on foot.  KGUN 9

  • Businesses in the Foothills are seeing fewer customers this summer as Fini’s Landing’s manager Tyler Moody said July will be their slowest month when many people leave town. The restaurant plans a gift card special—one tool to improve cash flow—while Visit Tucson promotes a Summer Streetcar Savings pass to help local businesses.  KGUN 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arizona students in the Wildcat Racing club built a working race car during a nationwide Formula SAE competition in May and are now recruiting new members to help with future projects—students from any field may join to learn hands-on engineering skills.  KGUN 9

  • Former Arizona guard Caleb Love signed a two-way contract with the Trail Blazers after going undrafted in the NBA Draft—he will join the team’s Summer League in Las Vegas in July.  The Daily Wildcat
  • Arizona Football commit Oscar Rios is ranked as the 10th best quarterback in the class of 2026 by 247Sports—he is set to enhance the team's future lineup.  KVOA
