CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An illegal campfire on Mount Lemmon sparked the 429 Fire early Friday, July 4 and U.S. Forestry crews responded at 9:45 a.m. to extinguish it in 15 minutes while citing a suspect for unauthorized campfire and activity in a closed area who may face jail time. KOLD News 13

- ➤ Twenty people from 18 countries took the Oath of Allegiance at Saguaro National Park on July 4 as part of the Independence Day celebration. William Nigira, who waited 10 years for citizenship, celebrated his birthday and became American—his family and friends watched with pride. KOLD News 13
- ➤ Governor Katie Hobbs appointed Judge Kristin Schriner to the Pima County Superior Court on Thursday to fill the spot left by retired Judge James Marner. - ➤ Tucson Parks and Recreation announced that its annual summer track and field and road races will be held, with track events taking place at Drachman Stadium every Tuesday until July 22 and road races scheduled for Thursdays at various parks until July 31. Registration for track events will begin at 6:30 p.m.—road race registration will open at 5:30 p.m. with races starting at 6 p.m., and ribbons will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event. - ➤ The framing of Tucson's Mosaic Quarter Iceplex is now visible from I-10 near Kino Parkway as construction begins on a privately funded sports and entertainment complex exclusively for the University of Arizona men's club hockey team (which will host student events). It will be completed in early 2027 as part of phase I of Mosaic Quarter (which also includes a large indoor sports hub). Arizona Daily Star
