- ➤ Pima Animal Care Center remains over capacity after July Fourth as it took in many strays — 80 dogs and 51 cats — that add strain to its resources. The shelter will host its Dog Days of Summer free adoption event this Saturday — from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with festivities from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. — at its Westside location on 4000 N. Silverbell Road. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters worked to contain a house fire near Mount Lemmon on July 8—fighting tough terrain with a 60% slope and hot conditions that forced frequent crew changes to keep the fire from reaching nearby wildlife. The unoccupied home suffered complete attic damage and no injuries were reported, while the fire marshal investigates the incident with the homeowners. KVOA

- ➤ The City of Tucson will host a Back to School Bash at the Quincie Douglas Center at 1575 E. 36th St. on July 12th from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Families will be offered free sports physicals and school-required vaccines, and children aged five and older may get free school supply packs while supplies last—call 5207912507 to reserve a spot and park at the Quincie Douglas Swimming Pool, Library, or Silverlake Park. - ➤ Federal after-school program funds are on hold, leaving Tucson Unified School District unable to support 1,000 students after a sudden $6 million cut disrupted services scheduled to begin on Oct. 1. - ➤ Early voting started for the Congressional District 7 Special Primary Election to fill the seat left vacant after Congressman Raúl Grijalva passed on March 13. Pima County voters can cast ballots at 58 vote centers open until 7 p.m. on July 11, with emergency voting (on July 12 and 14) held at adjusted hours and Election Day on July 15 featuring varied polling setups.
