- ➤ The Humane Society of Southern Arizona and Friends of PACC will use a $1.9M grant to offer affordable veterinary care, behavioral training + outreach services for pet owners in southern Arizona. The three-year grant is expected to help keep about 10,000 pets from entering shelters. KOLD News 13
- ➤ Southern Arizona Animal Food Bank moved to a new 1,554 square-foot space at 4444 E. Grant Road—its smaller quarters lower rent costs so more funds go to pet food donations—and it now accepts wet and dry dog and cat food while selling discounted pet accessories. The food bank is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Arizona Daily Star

- ➤ On July 20 at 2:57 p.m., emergency crews from the Santa Rita Fire District, Pima County Sheriff's Department, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety rescued a 70-year-old man from Green Valley in Madera Canyon after he spent about 10 hours outdoors without water and suffered a heat emergency—his rescue was delayed by tough terrain and weak cell reception before he was airlifted to a local hospital. - ➤ Tucson police arrested 34-year-old Cameron Michael Buell on July 20 after he deliberately set a fire in the lobby of the Grand Luxe Hotel and Resort near Grant Road and Interstate 10—hotel employees quickly extinguished the blaze before it spread and Buell now faces charges for arson, criminal damage, and criminal endangerment. - ➤ Tomorrow, the Tucson Convention Center will host the 14th annual Back to School: Kidz Expo where families with children aged 4 to 14 can get over 2,000 free backpacks, school supplies, and community resources from 4-9 p.m.—the event has grown from a small park gathering to a large annual celebration. - ➤ Fire restrictions on state and federal lands in Southeastern Arizona were lifted on Monday due to widespread rain and rising fuel moisture across Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima and Santa Cruz counties. - ➤ Arizona officials said they had moderate confidence that Iranian government actors breached the state’s candidate portal on June 23 by changing candidate photos to a red and black image of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini—officials added that similar attempts targeted other state and local agency servers and that no voter data was accessed as they plan to request $10 million to update their systems.
