  • Two weeks ago, a Tucson couple launched a front yard pantry to help local queer kids get snacks and support as school starts, and the pantry—currently known as Queer Pantry for Kids and soon to rebrand as Pantry Pals on August 4—operates at 525 S. Rosemont Ave. every weekday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  KGUN 9
  • Local bakery owner Mariam Zaky runs a 24/7 shop in Oro Valley while balancing her full-time supply chain job and caring for her three children—she starts baking at 5 a.m. and works until midnight to provide fresh bread and donate any unsold loaves to local organizations.  KGUN 9

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday in Tucson, Jonathan Perkins was arrested after allegedly stalking a woman by following her dog and climbing onto her roof until police arrived, then jumping off and attempting to escape, which led to officer injuries—he now faces charges of stalking, attempted burglary, disorderly conduct, and aggravated assault on police officers.  KVOA
  • A 40-year-old man named Peter Trujillo was arrested at Kennedy Park after he allegedly sold a vape pen and then kidnapped and sexually assaulted a victim when she refused to give her number—police later found guns and drugs in his car as he faces charges including sexual assault, sexual abuse, and kidnapping.  KVOA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Free park programs in Southern Arizona helped kids build vital skills for school on July 24th—local community organizers said the interactive activities will support early learning and social development.  KOLD News 13
  • TUSD will host the IMPACT Tucson Resource Fair at Palo Verde Magnet High School (1302 S. Avenida Vega) on Saturday, July 26th from 8-10 a.m. to offer registered families free backpacks, pencil packets, lunch, and fun hands-on activities like the Home Depot Experience while district leaders and enrollment ambassadors help with registration and answer questions.  Tucson Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 800 Tucson residents gathered at Mica Mountain High School on Wednesday to question officials and developer Beale Infrastructure about future water use and local job promises for the $3.6 billion Project Blue data centers, which will begin construction next year. City officials said they will enforce strict water rules with an annexation decision in August — though critics remain uneasy about sustainability and accountability measures.  Arizona Daily Star
