- ➤ Ryan Collins, founder of Be The Light Ministries, is hosting Haircuts for Hope to give local kids free haircuts and backpacks filled with school supplies to help them start school with confidence. The event will take place Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at FreshCutz on Oracle. KGUN 9
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Tucson father pleaded guilty to child abuse charges that led to his 9-year-old son's death and was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison and 20 years of probation in a Pima County courtroom—he had said his son was sick but left him alone for two days. KVOA
- ➤ Officers arrested a 31-year-old woman on Friday after she allegedly stabbed a 61-year-old man on a bus at the Laos Transit Center on Southside at around 10 a.m.—the victim suffered lacerations on his neck and hand, was treated at a local hospital, and has since been released. KGUN 9
- ➤ Marana police arrested Robert Giese, 32, on two counts of luring a minor for sexual exploitation after he reportedly approached children near Silverbell and Coachline on July 21 and was linked to additional incidents on July 22—he remains held on a $100,000 bond. KOLD News 13
- ➤ The Tucson Police Department is working to keep parks safe by helping people and stopping drug use and trespassing, as officers at De Anza Park helped 14 people and arrested 7 for drug violations, cleaned up 25 tons of trash and found drug activity at Francisco Elias Esquer Park, and bike officers arrested over 20 trespassers near Oracle Road and Jacinto Street—actions made to support the city's safety program. - ➤ Today, the Central Arizona Project team inspected the dry Agua Fria River Siphon north of Phoenix as they lowered blockers to make safe repairs on the 21 foot tall pipe that usually carries 1.3 million gallons per minute to Tucson and Phoenix. The siphon is part of a 336 mile canal that serves over 80% of Arizona residents+ the team will do further maintenance to fix steel corrosion+ helping avoid leaks and water disruption. KGUN 9
