- ➤ Peter Anthony Vonszillasy (44) from Tucson was sentenced to 156 years for 12 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after TPD, Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI uncovered illegal child abuse material during an investigation that began in November 2023 and included a search of his home on March 12. - ➤ The Arizona Department of Education is working on an awareness plan to stop growing youth nicotine pouch use after a study showed a 760% increase in ingestions by children six and younger and poison control calls nearly doubled this year—State Superintendent Tom Horne said the plan will help schools address the risks while a Zyn spokesperson noted federal data shows youth use remains low. - ➤ Students in the Amphitheater School District returned to classrooms today on a short first day while preschool classes will start Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Oro Valley Police Department reminded drivers to stop for school buses on multi-lane roads—illegal passing risks hefty fines and repeat license suspensions. - ➤ Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is sending warning letters to 37 voice service providers + 99 downstream providers to stop illegal robocalls routed through telecom networks. - ➤ Governor Katie Hobbs visited Pueblo High School on Thursday to sign HB 2484—a law that bans cell phone and wireless use in classrooms except for emergencies and medical needs. The law will be enforced statewide by the end of September to keep students focused on learning. KGUN 9
