ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Pima County Sheriff’s Department responded to a hit-and-run crash on east Sahuarita Road near south Wilmot Road where one vehicle collided with another before striking a second vehicle, and two people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the roadway remains closed. - ➤ On August 16, 2025, Tucson Police Department and Fire Department responded to a crash when two streetcars collided and derailed on 4th Avenue and 8th Street—four people suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. KOLD News 13
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Tucson physical therapist is facing deportation to Laos after he was arrested on July 28 leaving a patient’s home north of Tucson for a non-violent drug sale he committed as a teen—U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is now seeking travel documents from Laos to process his removal. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tucson will celebrate its 250th birthday with a weeklong series of events. Tuesday will feature a plaque unveiling at City Hall at 5:30 p.m. — later events include a postcard contest, museum exhibits, historical talks, and a public gathering with music and food. Arizona Daily Star
- ➤ Researchers have uncovered parts of the original Tucson Presidio where Spanish Army Lt. Colonel Hugo O’Conor founded the fort on Aug. 20, 1775—ongoing digs have revealed remnants of walls, a tower, and artifacts that tell the story of both indigenous life and early colonists. - ➤ After the City Council rejected Project Blue, Tucson job-seekers face a tough market as many applications go unanswered—local experts and affected workers say attracting outside investment is needed to boost opportunities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The RTA board voted six to two Friday to advance a 20-year, $2.67 billion plan that will let voters decide in March 2026 if a half-cent sales tax should fund transit and road projects through 2046. The board directed staff to finalize details and seek approval from Pima County Supervisors before Sept. 10—ensuring the plan moves forward on schedule. Tucson Sentinel
- ➤ Tucson City Council will vote on Tuesday to pass an ordinance that requires any new business using at least 7.48 million gallons a month to submit a water conservation plan—this action aims to protect the city’s water supply as officials prepare for future large water users including a potential chip factory.
