ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Santa Rita Fire District and AZDPS responded to two crashes on I-19 at milepost 42 in Green Valley, closing northbound lanes from Esperanza Road Exit to Duval Mine Road Exit—eight people were taken to a Tucson hospital, including one in serious condition.  KVOA

  • Summit Hut, a favorite spot for outdoor gear, announced its permanent closure after decades of service due to rising costs and increased competition — owners Dana and Jeremy Davis will start a going out of business sale on Aug 29 offering 30% off storewide.  KVOA

  • Authorities in Pima County are searching for a missing woman who was last seen recently; investigators ask anyone with information to contact local law enforcement as the probe continues.  KOLD News 13
  • In Marana, jury selection began in the trial of Taton Dorfman, who is accused of killing his girlfriend and a dog in a home on Linda Vista Boulevard near Hartman Lane+ he faces charges of first-degree murder and animal cruelty.  KVOA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former state senator Justine Wadsack missed a mandatory Federal Court hearing Tuesday in her civil suit alleging political persecution by Tucson—her attorney said she was told to appear but gave no explanation. She filed the suit in March and has since changed attorneys twice as Judge Zipps awaits further clarification to avoid a contempt citation.  KGUN 9
  • Sun Tran is inviting the Tucson community to share feedback on the proposed discontinuation of Route 22, a bus that carries about 5,000 passengers each month. The one-hour public meetings will run from Sept. 2 to Sept. 12 and cover the route starting at the Ronstadt Transit Center and passing the El Rio Neighborhood Center and Boys & Girls Club — residents can also submit their comments online before Sept. 12.  KVOA
  • City leaders in Tucson are weighing the idea of a city-run utility after rising rates and slow franchise talks with Tucson Electric Power have raised concerns; TEP warned that a public option would boost costs and lead to long court fights—council members including Paul Cunningham and Vice Mayor Lane Santa Cruz have urged more control over local energy.  KVOA

  • The seventh annual Sonoran Restaurant Week will run Sept. 5-14 in Tucson—over 100 restaurants will offer signature dishes at set prices and feature special dining events at locations like Nook and Sunshine Wine. Menus will update daily to help locals plan their meals.  KOLD News 13

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Today, a groundbreaking event began for the Sugar Hill housing development on North Stone Avenue—built on the site of the old Bum Steer nightclub and funded by a $2.5 million low-income housing tax credit award from the Arizona Department of Housing. The project will offer 66 affordable homes with one to three bedrooms and is set to be completed by October 2026.  KVOA
