- ➤ A 49-year-old man in Green Valley was bitten by a rattlesnake on Monday morning near Desert Bell Drive and La Cañada Drive while walking in a courtyard - he was taken to a hospital for treatment as officials note an increase in snake bites in the area. KVOA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Arizona has received a $20M gift from the Garcia Family Foundation to expand study abroad opportunities for students with financial need. The scholarship program will begin for the first eligible group in spring 2026 — it will lower cost barriers and include improved student advising. Arizona Daily Star
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management launched the Yellow Jacket fuels reduction project near Arivaca on Sept. 22 to reduce wildfire risk and improve the Altar Valley ecological health. Crews have begun hand thinning 61 acres along Ruby Road and on State Trust land, and work is expected to continue until year's end—drivers are advised to be cautious on Ruby Road. KVOA
- ➤ In the San Rafael Valley near Patagonia and Huachuca mountains, crews erected the first 250 feet of a new 30-foot border wall on Sept. 15 as part of a 900-day project employing up to 150 workers. Conservationists worry the construction (which cleared scenic grasslands) will reduce wildlife crossings by 86% and harm groundwater levels in a critical migration corridor. Arizona Daily Star

- ➤ Families with disabled children in Tucson will see state cuts to attendant care hours starting Oct. 1, leaving parents responsible for support once paid by the state — Gov. Hobbs said the changes aim to save over $133 million while keeping the program sustainable. KVOA
- ➤ Today, the City Council will review a Housing Alternatives through Urban Strength program that sets aside $100,000 to help 40 families cover move-in costs amid rising rents and stricter income requirements—part of efforts to ease Tucson’s growing housing challenges.
