BUSINESS NEWS

  • Founder Kerstin Block opened Buffalo Exchange in Tucson in 1974 and turned the small shop into a chain with 41 stores across 15 states—her daughter Rebecca Block now leads the company to preserve her unique style.  KGUN 9
  • South Tucson’s Food City closed its doors at 6 p.m. today after operating for over 25 years with empty shelves seen during its final hours. The parent company cited declining sales for the closure, and city council members are now exploring a new full-service option—employees can transfer to other Bashas’ stores.  KVOA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Amphitheater School District is planning to close up to five elementary schools for the 2026-27 school year because falling enrollment and lost funding have left classrooms underused—officials are reviewing data to keep programs strong.  KVOA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review invites Tucson residents to share comments on judges who will appear on the 2026 retention ballot, with a public hearing on Oct. 24 in Phoenix and feedback accepted via phone, Zoom, or in person at the State Courts Building. All submissions must include a name and address—evaluations will be published before the retention election to guide voters.  KVOA
  • Tucson voters must register by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 6 to be eligible for the Nov. 4 city council and school district elections, with ballots mailed beginning Oct. 8. The election features contests in several wards along with propositions on school funding overrides, bond measures and a city plan update—key issues for local governance.  Tucson Sentinel
  • The Tucson Fire Department announced it will relocate Station 14 to improve public safety on the south side—this major investment is expected to benefit local neighborhoods in the near future.  KOLD News 13
  • Adelita Grijalva won Tucson’s District 7 special election on Sept. 23 to fill the seat left by her late father Raul Grijalva, but she is still waiting to be sworn in due to pending paperwork—this delay may stop her from voting on urgent bills and setting up an office in Tucson. Students expressed frustration and hope that the issue is fixed soon before a possible government shutdown adds more delays.  The Daily Wildcat

  • Medical providers and patients say rising insurance claim denials are hurting efforts that cleared medical debt, with a town hall hearing tough stories from frustrated doctors in Gilbert. A new Cigna policy will start on Wednesday + it may push some clinics to switch to cash-pay models.  Tucson Sentinel

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, the University of Arizona men’s basketball team hosted its annual Red-Blue showcase at McKale Center presented by First Watch—fans got a first look at new and returning players for the 2025-2026 season. The event featured contests for three-point shooting and dunking and ended with a scrimmage between the red and blue teams.  The Daily Wildcat
