- ➤ Pima Animal Care Center urges pet owners to secure their pets before heavy rain this weekend and to consider adopting or fostering as its shelter now houses 570 dogs in a space meant for 350—large dog adoption fees are waived until Oct.13 with a $25 gift card offered for dogs weighing 40 pounds or more. This step aims to ease the shelter's crisis capacity and keep pets safe during the storm. KVOA

- ➤ Downtown Tucson’s old HiFi bar is being turned into a U of A sports bar by local owner Grant Krueger — he plans to update the space with a 40-seat bar, large kitchen, and safer facilities. If all goes as planned, the new sports bar will open early next year before March Madness. KOLD News 13

- ➤ The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures has opened an exhibit—Ray Harryhausen: Miniature Models of the Silver Screen—that shows 130 detailed models from the famed stop-motion animator's career running until May 3. - ➤ University of Arizona’s Special Collections opened a new exhibit called 'Trailblazer: Stewart L. Udall’s Environmental Leadership' on Oct. 3 — it shows artifacts and photos from his work as a conservationist and former U.S. representative. - ➤ Arizona's public universities are fueling semiconductor innovation as the state prepares to host SEMICON West 2025 — the largest microelectronics trade conference in North America. ASU got $47.5 million for a new lab, NAU received $13 million for a training center, and UA was awarded $35.5 million to expand its fabrication center, boosting high-wage jobs under the AZ Opportunity initiative. - ➤ A Pima County program helps incarcerated youth by offering flexible online classes—giving them a second chance to succeed while in detention. KOLD News 13

- ➤ The Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross told Tucson residents to prepare for possible flooding as rain is expected this weekend. Officials warned that even six inches of moving water can knock a person over—12 inches could move a car, so residents should follow local directions and check on neighbors. KVOA
- ➤ A court ruled on Sept 24 to allow a lawsuit challenging exploratory drilling at Patagonia Mountains to proceed — a decision that sets the case for further legal review and may affect future local drilling plans. KVOA

- ➤ The Arizona Chapter of HDSA will host the Team Hope Walk—Arizona on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Reid Park with registration starting at 8 a.m. and the walk beginning at 9 a.m. to support people with Huntington’s disease and their families. KVOA
- ➤ Tucson Medical Center Health’s security team in midtown uses three trained dogs and three handlers to patrol the hospital and inspect for explosives, helping staff and patients feel safe. The donor-funded program builds strong bonds between the dogs and their handlers + shows the hospital’s commitment to security. KGUN 9
- ➤ The University of Arizona increased access to Narcan by placing it in AED boxes and at the Health Promotions Hideaway so students can quickly respond to overdoses. TACO and UAEMS trained staff and hosted events—TACO Tuesday and a club fair—where they taught safe drug practices and the Good Samaritan Law, and Narcan from an AED reversed an overdose last semester.
