- ➤ Angel Charity for Children will host its Halo for Hire Grant Orientation today at 9 a.m.—eligible Pima County nonprofits that serve children and have held a 501(c)(3) status for three years can learn about the application process, selection criteria, and 2026 funding. The event runs from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a Q&A session until 11 a.m. KVOA
- ➤ Operation Christmas Child will host National Collection Week from Nov. 17 to Nov. 24 as nearly 5,000 drop-off spots in Tucson and across Arizona get ready to receive shoebox gifts. The Samaritan’s Purse project aims to help 12 million children worldwide by filling boxes with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items—sharing the Gospel through giving. KVOA
- ➤ Green Valley’s Resting Horse Ranch is hosting its Fall Fundraiser—Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy—at the Elks Club on November 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to raise $7,000 for winter feed and supplements that support senior horses. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Heavy rain turned washes around Tucson into fast-moving currents on Sunday that forced eight swift water rescues near Camino de la Tierra and Tres Nogales Road as 14 units from Tucson Fire and local districts responded and officials reminded drivers to stay off flooded roads — a call that helped keep other services available. - ➤ On Oct. 12, Tucson Fire responded to a swift water rescue near East Calle Betelgeux and South Avenida Planeta at 6:17 p.m. when a pick-up truck got stuck in about four feet of water near the Alamo Wash and Ladder 9 extended its aerial ladder to rescue the driver safely. KVOA

- ➤ Students at the UA Norton School of Human Ecology will host the Dogs N Denim fashion show on Oct. 16 at 650 N. - ➤ Tucson will host a reunion for the cast and creator of 'Resurrection Boulevard' on Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. at Fox Theatre to mark 25 years since the show first aired with an all-Latino cast—attendees will see a pilot screening, highlight reel and live Q&A while funds are raised for the Leoni Filmmaking Scholarship to benefit local high school film students. - ➤ Pima County closed several roads due to weekend storms that caused flooding and hazardous travel conditions — including sections of Wentworth Street at Tanque Verde Wash, Craycroft Road north of Valencia Road, Drexel Road east of Arcadia Avenue, Contractors Way, Manville Road and portions of Overton Road. - ➤ Record rain fell on Sunday at Tucson International Airport — 1.20 inches broke the daily rainfall record. Cooler air from a south-moving low pressure will bring mostly sunny skies today with temperatures in the 70s and cool morning lows in the 40s. KVOA

- ➤ The University of Arizona Faculty Senate voted 40–8 on Monday to reject the White House’s Compact for Academic Excellence over concerns about academic freedom and federal overreach—faculty and students also discussed changes to general education and the closure of five microcampuses in China, warning the proposed compact could affect tuition and aid. - ➤ Tucson Mayor Regina Romero unveiled the Safe City Initiative on social media Sunday and during a roundtable on Monday to boost transit safety and target high-crime areas. - ➤ The Pima County Board of Supervisors will meet today to talk about a resolution that opposes federal conditions on funding at the University of Arizona— a step taken after a similar move by the Tucson City Council last week. KVOA
