- ➤ Gospel Rescue Mission bought just over one acre of land for $300,000 across the street from its main facility to expand housing, services and programs—construction on the new property could begin as early as next year as plans are still being developed. KGUN 9
- ➤ Tucson opened STAR Village today—an outdoor safe sleeping site built to house nearly 25 homeless women—despite local opposition. KOLD News 13
- ➤ Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church has helped the homeless for 25 years by providing meals, restrooms, and shelter for up to 140 people daily—neighbors in the Blenman-Elm area hired a law firm to block the program, saying it brings crime, drug use, and sanitation issues, while the church will continue cleaning the area and keeping a restroom open 24/7. - ➤ Hope in the Park will be held on Nov. 7 at Rudy Garcia Park, 5001 S. Nogales Highway, from 9 AM to 2 PM to provide unsheltered individuals with health screenings, legal aid, housing support and other services. Sponsored by the City of Tucson’s Housing First Division, the event expects over 300 people and needs volunteers for shifts starting at 7 AM and vendors to participate — details can be obtained from event organizers. - ➤ Apple Annie's Orchards had a lighter apple harvest this season after last year's heavy crop — the orchard still welcomes visitors for apple picking and fun family activities like a scavenger hunt, pumpkin bowling, and sunflower planting starting this weekend. - ➤ On Wednesday morning, a stray bullet from a nearby shooting range struck the monkey bars at Gladden Farms Community Park and no one was injured—Marana Police said the round came from the Marana Shooting Club used for authorized rifle training and that an investigation is underway. KVOA

- ➤ Visit Tucson launched a new brand and logo on Wednesday to boost tourism and economic growth+ the rebranding aims to attract more visitors with a fresh image. KOLD News 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Pima County Board of Supervisors approved up to $1 million from Friends of PACC on Oct. 14 to fund a new eastside Pima Animal Care Center aimed at easing crowding at the main shelter — officials are finalizing the lease near Broadway Boulevard and Kolb Road to boost adoptions for eastside residents. - ➤ Today Sabino Canyon Park in Tucson begins upgrades that include a new paved parking lot, a public restroom, 21 on-street parking spaces, rehabilitation of a half-mile asphalt surface, and a 5-foot-wide pathway — flaggers are on-site to manage minor delays of up to 15 minutes. The Federal Highway Administration leads the project in partnership with Pima County and Coronado National Forest, with work set Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. KVOA

- ➤ Clínica Amistad will host its 11th Annual Gala on Oct. 25 at the El Conquistador Hilton – A Tucson Resort to raise $150,000 for free healthcare services for uninsured residents. - ➤ The Haven, a Tucson recovery center, reported that payment delays from AHCCCS due to a state crackdown on fraudulent sober living homes are threatening care for vulnerable women—especially Native women. - ➤ Blood Cancer United will host its Light the Night event at the University of Arizona Campus Mall on Oct. 18 to raise funds for blood cancer research and patient support.
