COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gospel Rescue Mission opened a new cafe on Oct20 to offer job opportunities and training for homeless individuals in Tucson — the initiative is designed to help them build skills and move toward stable employment.  KOLD News 13
  • Today, the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is asking for cash and non-perishable food as the federal shutdown increases local families' needs — each dollar donated provides three meals. CEO Natalie Jayroe noted high-demand items include canned vegetables, pasta, peanut butter, and cereal.  KVOA
  • Living Streets Alliance is hosting Cyclovia Tucson on Sunday, Oct 26, with streets on the Cyclovia Thrive in the 05 route closing to cars from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event encourages walking and biking—using free Sun Tran buses and Tugo Bikeshare—and invites volunteers to sign up for a three-hour shift to receive a Cyclovia T-shirt.  KVOA
  • The Villas at Green Valley will host its third annual trunk or treat event on October 23rd from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Desert Bell Road cul-de-sac—featuring over two dozen candy-filled trunks, food trucks, a Haunted Mansion, and off-site parking with golf carts for family fun and intergenerational connection.  KGUN 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tim Lennon, a Tucson author and survivors movement activist, released his new book Stand Up Speak Up: How Survivors Created a Movement to End Sexual Violence in August—he details decades of fighting abuse, sharing his personal history and work with SNAP to unite survivor groups.  The Daily Wildcat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella said the school chose not to agree with the federal proposal and instead submitted a Statement of Principles to keep academic freedom, merit-based research funding, and institutional independence. He urged the campus community to review the response while the university continues working with state and local officials (Gov. Katie Hobbs) to strengthen higher education.  KVOA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews will close north Columbus Boulevard near Grant Road starting Wednesday for about three weeks to install a new water line that needs deep excavation—this work is part of a larger project adding extra lanes and features, with travel restrictions in place until mid-November and additional paving work continuing soon.  KGUN 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Alzheimer’s Association invites Tucson residents to join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 25, 2025—participants will take part in the Promise Garden ceremony where they carry colored flowers to honor their connection to the disease.  KGUN 9

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Tucson Baseball Team canceled its home series at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium on Oct. 24 to 26 because the team is still sorting out visa issues for its officers and players. The series against the Yaquis de Obregón will now be held at the opponent's stadium while the team works to resolve the problem before its next home series on Oct. 31.  Tucson Sentinel
  • The 42nd El Tour de Tucson is scheduled for November 22 and will start and end at the Tucson Convention Center—organizer Perimeter Bicycling expects about 10,000 cyclists to ride routes from 32 to 102 miles with family rides and a 5K run/walk also planned. Registrants can sign up online while safety meetings and an expo with awards, music, and a beer garden will follow the event.  KVOA
  • Tucson Senior Olympic Festival will run from Jan. 3 to Feb. 1, 2026 and will offer many sports and activities for adults 50 and older. Registration opens on Nov. 3 and ends on Dec. 26 with an open house from Dec. 9 to 11 at Allen Hall + organizers expect over 2,000 participants.  KGUN 9
