- ➤ Gospel Rescue Mission is preparing its 37th Annual Thanksgiving Blessings Event on November 26 at the H.S. Lopez Family Foundation Center of Opportunity—over 2,500 meals will be served to those facing hunger and homelessness. The organization asks for food donations and funds during business hours at 4550 S. Palo Verde Road—volunteers are also welcomed to help support the event. KVOA
- ➤ Thanks to the National Make a Dog’s Day promotion, Pima Animal Care Center waived adoption fees for large dogs this month and offered a $25 voucher with each adoption during extended hours on Oct. 22 at its Silverbell Road shelter. The center will host an in-shelter scavenger hunt from Oct. 24 to Oct. 26—further encouraging animal adoptions. KVOA

- ➤ Sahuarita Police Department led a coordinated traffic sweep along I-19 last week that resulted in 122 stops—25 handled by its officers working with Pima County Sheriff’s deputies and state troopers. The operation is part of an ongoing effort to boost roadway safety after several crashes near Green Valley and Sahuarita. KGUN 9

- ➤ Mathias Svalina, a poet and artist, will deliver surreal dreams by bike and guide free dream history tours in Tucson for the next few weeks. His first tour will begin Saturday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Poetry Center—combining local history with creative poetry. The Daily Wildcat
- ➤ Tucson Pride announced that its parade and festival will be rescheduled from November 22 to February 21 to allow both events to take place together—this decision comes after challenges with scheduling conflicts with El Tour de Tucson, financial losses from last year's heatwave, and administrative setbacks that temporarily affected its nonprofit status. Smaller Pride events will still occur this November to maintain community connection. KGUN 9
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arizona federal workers and union leaders said the three-week shutdown hurt many lives. They urged Congress and the White House to end the shutdown—about 34,500 workers lost pay and are struggling with bills. Tucson Sentinel
- ➤ Tucson City Council approved the demolition of the historic Bank of America Plaza at 27 North Stone Avenue to expand Fox Theatre into a performing arts center that will open in 2030 to celebrate its 100th birthday; the expansion is estimated to cost $26.4 million and $6.4 million has been raised including $2.7 million from the Rio Nuevo Board. - ➤ Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management has announced that the Green Campus Grant application is open now through November 13. The grant, which is part of their Community Challenge Grants program, will support projects to create green spaces featuring native trees on K-12 school, healthcare and faith-based campuses—projects must be completed within one year. - ➤ At the Pima County Board of Supervisors meeting, protestors in red shirts objected to Project Blue—a proposed data center near Houghton Road and Interstate 10—and raised concerns over water and power use while officials maintained the current land sale choice. Beale Infrastructure says the project will use air-cooled technology and is expected to create 3,000 construction jobs while generating an estimated $250 million in tax revenues over ten years. KVOA
