COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Casa Maria in South Tucson is facing longer lines for food and clothing as SNAP benefits are delayed and cut, causing rising need across the community. Today the soup kitchen served 540 meals at lunch—140 more than average—and its staff is urging neighbors to help support those in need.  KGUN 9
  • Today, Savannah Guthrie, a Today Show anchor and News 4 Tucson alum, returned to her hometown as her special visit is featured on the Today Show this morning. Viewers will also see an exclusive 6 p.m. interview with News 4 Tucson’s Sean Mooney that includes a Tucson trivia game.  KVOA

  • El Güero Canelo opened its new Southside restaurant next to its original 30-year-old site—featuring an attached carnicería for fresh meats—and owner Daniel Contreras called the milestone a dream come true before his planned retirement next spring.  KGUN 9

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities in Pima County are searching for a missing teen after the disappearance was reported on November 5—police continue to follow leads in the case.  KOLD News 13
  • On Nov. 2, hundreds of UA students and community members gathered at a memorial on Second Street & Euclid Avenue to honor three students killed in a hit and run crash, with attendees leaving candles and flowers and sharing memories of Josiah Santos, Sophia Troetel and Katya Castillo-Mendoza.  The Daily Wildcat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • TUSD Prop 414 passed on Nov 5, giving Tucson Unified School District officials the authority to override the budget and adjust funding for key programs+ officials said they will announce further steps soon.  KVOA
  • The University of Arizona announced that Wildcat legend Steve Kerr will join as an honorary professor—and he has pledged $1 million to fund study-abroad scholarships for the College of Humanities. His appointment will expand opportunities for students to gain global experience.  Arizona Daily Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Katie Hobbs introduced AZRx on Monday as a free, state-backed prescription discount card that protects users' privacy (it does not sell personal data) and uses a state steering committee to help lower prices. The card is available to any Arizona resident for use at over 1,200 local pharmacies and 64,000+ outlets nationwide.  KGUN 9
  • Tucson Electric Power held a ribbon-cutting at Roadrunner Reserve, its largest battery storage system, with Gov. Katie Hobbs present. The 200-megawatt battery will begin operation in July — powering 42,000 homes for four hours at peak times — and TEP announced a second 200-megawatt system planned for summer 2026.  KVOA
  • TEP held a ribbon-cutting today at Roadrunner Reserve, its largest battery energy storage system that powered 42,000 homes for four hours this summer, with Gov. Hobbs and local officials attending a guided tour. A second 200-megawatt phase is under construction and will be finished by summer — a step to boost grid reliability.  KVOA

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Pima Community College men’s basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a 414-67 win over Community Christian College at West Campus Aztec Gymnasium, as Mendoza, Green, and Hill each recorded double-doubles.
