COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Brick Box Brewery in downtown Tucson partnered with local businesses and social media content creator missfirebites to serve free meals and raise funds for people facing SNAP cuts—having served over 250 meals and raised more than $2,500 for ingredients—while owner James Owens says the effort shows how neighbors can support each other in tough times.  KGUN 9
  • Local organizations in Tucson have joined forces to offer free meals to residents. The new program will serve meals at designated community centers soon—official schedules are still pending.  KOLD News 13
  • Tucson farmers markets are offering SNAP customers a $10 voucher for local produce—part of a $40 plan amid ongoing federal and state funding disputes—and urging the community to donate to extra help while many families face meal uncertainty.  KGUN 9
  • Hollywood Barber College will offer free haircuts to veterans on Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1336 W. Prince Road—student barbers under licensed instructors will provide the service on a first-come, first-served basis.  KVOA
  • Casino Del Sol honored veterans with a dedication wall ceremony Monday featuring the Pascua Yaqui Color Guard and Tribal Council— the memorial wall at 5655 W. Valencia Road remains open to the public until Nov. 16 for visitors to sign messages of thanks.  KVOA
  • Tucson sandwich chain eegee's is thanking veterans and active military today by offering a free medium eegee — customers must show valid ID and are limited to one per person. Other local businesses will also provide free or discounted offers to honor those who served.  KGUN 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thousands gathered in Tucson on November 10th for the All Souls Procession — local residents came together to honor loved ones in a longstanding cultural event.  KOLD News 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Catalina Foothills Unified School District test scores dropped slightly from last year but remained above the state average, and its board moved the meeting to Monday due to Veterans Day falling on Tuesday—yesterday's changes affected how meetings were scheduled. Meanwhile, Pima Community College's board will vote on Wednesday to hire a consultant for a possible $200 million bond aimed at a November 2026 election—this move could influence county funding decisions.  Tucson Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, several downtown streets including Granada and Congress will be closed starting at 9 a.m. for the Tucson Veterans Day Parade that kicks off at 11 a.m. Closures remain until about 1 p.m. — law enforcement and Sun Tran buses will guide traffic and adjust routes for streetcar passengers.  KVOA
  • Gov. Hobbs announced $1.8 million in emergency funds (from American Rescue Plan dollars) to aid residents waiting for SNAP benefits. The state faces uncertainty as 800,000 people and local food banks deal with delays caused by federal legal challenges.  KOLD News 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials reported 13 infants have been hospitalized in 10 states, including in Arizona, after consuming recalled ByHeart Inc. formula linked to infant botulism, and no deaths have been reported. The FDA and CDC are investigating the contamination (and advise parents to record lot numbers and seek care if symptoms like poor feeding or weak muscle tone appear).  KOLD News 13

  • The Arizona Wildcats beat the Kansas Jayhawks 24 to 20 on Saturday at Arizona Stadium to become bowl eligible—Noah Fifita passed for 158 yards and two touchdowns. The team will travel to Cincinnati next week.  KOLD News 13
  • The Arizona Wildcats started their season strongly by defeating the reigning champions Florida on opening night and then beating Utah Tech 93-67 at McKale Center.
