COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Angel Charity for Children will host its 43rd annual Angel Ball themed “What a Wonderful World” at The Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa on Dec. 13 to honor donors and community partners who help support kids in Pima County— the event will offer international entertainment, unique cuisine, and cultural flair along with a silent auction and raffle featuring prizes like a $10,000 shopping spree and a trip to Italy.  KVOA
  • The Winterhaven Festival of Lights in Tucson will run from Dec. 13 to 27 and will feature over 200 illuminated homes with new vendors, improved lighting, and safer walkways — a major upgrade over past years. Festival organizers have scheduled drive-through nights on Dec. 15 and 17 and aim to raise $60,000 for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona — reinforcing a long-standing local tradition.  KVOA
  • Local organizations and restaurants are offering free Thanksgiving meals and food boxes to help Tucsonans amid rising demand after SNAP benefits were restored—Zion City is serving 1,500 meals today while the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona distributes food boxes.   • Reid Park Zoo has welcomed a new squirrel monkey named Hudson from Sedgwick County Zoo to join his troop at the Temple of Tiny Monkeys—he is small, playful, and already shows a close bond with Toto. Visitors can see Hudson in the South America loop as he adjusts to his new home among the troop.  KVOA

CULTURE NEWS

  • The San Xavier District of the Tohono O’odham Nation and the Episcopal Church of St. Matthew have teamed up to support local Native American artists by hosting the Indigenous Marketplace. The event will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting November 29th—offering a free platform for tribally enrolled artisans to sell their crafts.  KVOA
  • Tucson’s Ignite Sign Art Museum is rebuilding after a fire on Oct. 18 destroyed more than half the building and 500 neon signs—owner Jude Cook is clearing debris and working with a restoration team for a rebuild costing up to $750,000. A fire sale fundraiser will be held today from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 331 S Olsen Ave with a grand lighting at 5:30 p.m. and donations are welcome.  KOLD News 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Children's Museum Tucson opened its Block Party exhibit Thursday, letting kids build and stack safe blocks in a bilingual setting—designed to boost learning through play. The interactive exhibit will run through May 2026.  KVOA
  • The University of Arizona Grad Café now offers support to graduate students facing academic or personal challenges, a university official said. The program gives students access to resources to help manage stress—improving overall well-being.  KOLD News 13

  • The City of Tucson and Rio Nuevo say Tucson Holiday Ice will open later than planned because an equipment failure caused a delay. Replacement parts are on order—crews are working to finish repairs quickly as guests with affected tickets receive automatic refunds and the opening is set for Nov. 29.  KGUN 9
  • Arizona Senators Mark Kelly, Ruben Gallego and nine others asked Senate Appropriations leadership to add emergency funds for wildfire recovery on federal lands after wildfires burned nearly one million acres and hurt National Parks and forests such as the North Rim and Kaibab — the letter was sent to Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins and Vice Chair Patty Murray.  KVOA

  • Olympian Chloé Dygert is back in Tucson as a domestique while training at Prologue Camp—preparing for today’s El Tour. The 2024 champion and three-time Olympian said she is focused on supporting another rider’s chance to win as she continues her racing career.  KGUN 9
