COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Serenity Matanza, a senior at Pueblo High School, led a Thanksgiving turkey drive to help classmates and staff in need by collecting donations from Walmart, her church Calvary Chapel Tucson, and school departments. She distributed 138 turkeys and 200 sacks of potatoes — a project fueled by years of volunteer work — so families and staff could enjoy a proper meal.  KGUN 9

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A cyclist riding in El Tour de Tucson escaped injury after a javelina collided with them near the intersection of Colossal Cave Road and Camino Loma Alta around 9:12 a.m. Saturday morning, police said.  KGUN 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Nov. 6, the University of Arizona held a celebration of life at Bear Down Field to honor four students (Sophia Troetel, Josiah Santos, Katya Castillo-Mendoza and Peter Wanjohi) who died in October traffic incidents. Family, friends and students shared memories as three were killed in a hit-and-run at Euclid and Second while one died after running through a crosswalk on South Kino Parkway.  The Daily Wildcat
  • At the University of Arizona, law clinics let students work in real court settings to practice what they have learned. The program offers 17 clinics + helps students work with judges and attorneys to explore different fields of law.  The Daily Wildcat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials lifted the closure on Mount Lemmon Road on November 20 and urged drivers to follow safety guidelines—road conditions were still under review as traffic resumed. Local authorities stressed caution despite the reopening of the affected route.  KVOA

HEALTH NEWS

  • University students now have access to an intensive mental health program through a partnership between the university’s Counseling and Psychological Services and Sierra Tucson—this program offers evening group sessions and weekly one-on-one support with no extra cost for those on the United Student Health Insurance Plan. This initiative expands care options for students who need more than traditional weekly counseling while remaining enrolled.  The Daily Wildcat

SPORTS NEWS

  • El Tour de Tucson finished its 42nd annual bike race, drawing over 10,000 cyclists along Tucson streets— it remains the largest bike race in the U.S. and the longest-running event of its kind in Arizona.  Arizona Daily Star
  • Arizona football closed out Senior Day on November 22 with a win over Baylor 41 to 17 at Casino Del Sol Stadium—The Wildcats improved their home record to six to one with key plays from Kris Hutson and Dalton Johnson and will face ASU in the Territorial Cup on November 28.  The Daily Wildcat
  • Arizona ended its final home game with a 41-17 win over Baylor at Casino Del Sol Stadium on November 22. The team forced three turnovers in the fourth quarter + had Super Bowl winner Nick Foles in attendance, which helped the Cats finish the season strongly.  The Daily Wildcat
  • Arizona ended its home Big 12 season with a strong fourth-quarter run as it beat Baylor 41-17 on Nov. 22 in Tucson—this win wrapped up its home schedule.  Arizona Daily Star
